What is a PPEC — and why it isn't daycare
Most parents hear the word for the first time from a hospital case manager, and it sounds like paperwork. It isn't. It's the room your child has been waiting for.
PPEC stands for Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care. It is a medical daycare: a center licensed by the state of Florida where licensed nurses care for children from birth through age 20 who have complex medical needs. Trach and vent. G-tube feeds. Seizures. Oxygen. Monitors.
Your child can stay up to 12 hours a day. While they're here, they get therapy, meals, learning, and other kids to play with. You get to work, or sleep, or take your other child to their own appointment — without your phone in your hand all day.
The daycare down the street didn't turn you down because they didn't care. They turned you down because they aren't licensed to do what your child needs. We are.

How enrollment actually works
There are two pieces of paper between your child and a spot here: a prescription and an authorization. Here's the honest version, with no surprises.

Call us or book a tour
Walk the rooms. Meet the nurses. Ask the questions you've been carrying around for months. Bring your child.

Your child's doctor writes the prescription
PPEC is prescribed care, so it starts with a physician's referral — typically written for 180 days. We'll talk to the office directly.

Medicaid authorizes the care
Your Medicaid or managed-care plan reviews the prescription and issues prior authorization. This is the part that scares people. It's the part we know cold.

Your child starts
The van comes to your door. Nursing, therapy, meals and play are waiting. First day — and every day after.

Peek A Boo was started by a father and his daughter. He practiced Internal Medicine in Cuba before the family immigrated in 1999 — he knows what it is to start over, and to be the person a worried family is counting on. His daughter, Natali Tejeda, owns the center. Rosa Martinez is our Director of Nursing.
Our staff is bilingual, English and Spanish. Nobody has to translate their child's medical history for us, and nobody has to bring a relative along to interpret.

We're on the Hollywood, Davie and Pembroke Pines border, near Memorial Regional and Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, and we're used to the weeks right after discharge.

What is a PPEC?
PPEC stands for Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care. It is a medical daycare licensed by Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration, where licensed nurses care for children from birth through age 20 who have complex medical needs — tracheostomy and ventilator care, G-tube feeds, seizure disorders, oxygen and monitors. Children can attend up to 12 hours a day and receive therapy, meals and learning while they are here.
Does Florida Medicaid cover PPEC?
Yes. Florida Medicaid covers PPEC at 100% for eligible children, with no copays. Coverage requires a prescription from your child's physician, typically written as a 180-day referral, plus prior authorization from your Medicaid or managed-care plan. We complete that paperwork with you.
How do I know if my child qualifies?
Children who qualify usually have a condition that needs skilled nursing during the day — cerebral palsy, tracheostomy care, ventilator dependence, tube feedings, seizure disorders, chronic asthma, apnea monitoring, hydrocephalus, spina bifida, traumatic brain injury, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, cardiac conditions, or prematurity and NICU graduation. Is the transportation really free?
Yes, for eligible children. Door-to-door transportation is a covered Florida Medicaid PPEC benefit — we pick your child up at home, bring them to the center and take them home. We also transport children to medical appointments during the day.
What are your hours, and how long can my child stay?
We are open Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Children can attend up to 12 hours a day.
